Chaffey FCU Summer 2023 Newsletter

A Message From Diane

Hello Chaffey Members!

We have had some exciting developments over the past three months here at Chaffey FCU.  To start, I would like to thank the 74 members who attended our annual meeting in April!  I hope you learned something new about your credit union.  At the annual meeting, I announced the creation of an Associate Board Member program which provides some additional opportunity for individuals such as yourself to learn more about how the credit union is run. This role also gives the opportunity to provide your own insight into the direction of the credit union. Don’t worry – you don’t need to be a financial expert to volunteer for the credit union! One of the things that makes a strong board is representation from a diverse set of experiences and industries. If you would like to learn more about this, please visit our website, reach out to us by phone or e-mail, or you can speak to a representative in your favorite branch.

Chaffey FCU staff held five Bite of Reality budgeting simulations for local high school students in two months! In the first six months of the year, we have reached almost 2,500 students with this simulation, giving them the opportunity to practice making tough decisions so that they can stay within their budget. You can read more about this program on our Bite of Reality page.

Chaffey FCU is also now proud to be the exclusive credit union partner of the Empire Strykers indoor soccer team! One of the reasons we chose to create this partnership is that the Strykers’ commitment to the Inland Empire so closely mirrors Chaffey FCU’s commitment to contributing to our local community. If you happen to be at one of their youth soccer camps this summer, keep an eye out for our table* and come say hello!

As a final note, today’s economic times may be causing you to feel uncertain or anxious about your financial situation. Unfortunately, that anxiety can cause individuals to be more susceptible to potential scam or fraud attempts, resulting in the loss of your hard-earned money. I encourage you to reach out to the credit union for a second opinion if you feel like you may be targeted by a scam. Also, never provide your home banking login information to others, especially through social media channels, and be careful about using P2P apps (CashApp, Venmo, Zelle, etc.) to send money to people you do not know personally. The staff that you already know here at Chaffey FCU is here to help talk you through the tough times, help you celebrate the good times, and be a resource for you at all times.

I hope you have a wonderful summer enjoying the sunshine!  As always, thank you for your membership.

President/CEO

Preparing Students for Life after Graduation

Throughout the 2022-2023 school year, your Chaffey FCU staff have made it a priority to support our local students, school faculty, and educational community. Check out a couple of highlights from this past quarter!

During this school year, we have led over 2,400 students through Bite of Reality®, an interactive simulation that teaches teens how to make financial decisions and gives a taste of real-world financial realities. Every Bite of Reality event would not have been possible without the support of dedicated staff and volunteers at each school. Throughout the year, we had the privilege of hosting Bite of Reality events at Alta Loma High, Upland High, Etiwanda High, Rancho Cucamonga High, and Bonita High School. We are looking forward to continuing to host Bite of Reality and financial workshops this Fall!

For the third year in a row, we partnered with the Chaffey Joint Union High School District Campus Officers to award $500 scholarships to well-deserving students who have gone above and beyond in their academic and extracurricular pursuits. It was an honor to recognize these outstanding students and to support their future endeavors. Congratulations Kevin, Miguel, Joaquin, Hailey, Marcos, Faith, Isabella, and Victor!
