Summer Volunteer Opportunities for Nearly Everyone

Long days, warm evenings, vacations and no school are a few of the reasons why many people consider summer their favorite season. Summer can also be a great time to become more involved in the community, meet new friends and help others by participating in volunteer opportunities.

There are several fun and fulfilling volunteer opportunities to consider. Here are a few examples:

Foothill Family Shelter – Serves Upland, Ontario, Montclair, Pomona, Claremont and Rancho Cucamonga, Foothill Family Shelter provides housing, family and community services. There are many ways to get involved, including sorting donations, stocking shelves in their food pantry, serving walk-in clients and providing resources to their walk-in clients. They also accept a wide-range of donations. Click here to learn more.

Reach Out - Based out of Upland, CA, Reach Out helps support youth, their families and our communities through assistance, awareness and leadership programs that serve 25,000 youth and adults each year in the Inland Empire and beyond. Some of their programs include youth development programs, substance abuse prevention, parenting programs and classes, creating healthy cities and more. You can support Reach Out by volunteering (you need to complete a volunteer application) and donating.

San Antonio Regional Hospital – San Antonio Regional Hospital offers several volunteer opportunities in most areas of the hospital, including assistance at special events, blood drives, clerical reception and nursing staff support, gift shop sales, main lobby reception and support for surgical patients and their families. They even have a junior volunteer program. Click here to learn more and/or to complete a volunteer application form.

Beach Clean-ups – The California Department of Parks and Recreation hosts beach clean-ups on Fridays from 9 am until noon on Fridays during the month of June and on Mondays from 9 am until noon on Mondays during the month of July at Huntington Beach. Click here for more information.

The above volunteer opportunities are just a sampling of some of the ways that you can “give back” this summer. Volunteermatch.org is another great resource for finding opportunities that support a specific cause.
